"Everybody is a genius. But, if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will spend its whole life believing it is stupid." Albert Einstein

We are in need of a variety of boxes...cereal, shoe, etc. We will be starting our first STEM project soon!

Assessment Days

Rona Goode

Our class has officially ended homework as of this Friday, May 20th! Yippee!!!

Room E5 has gone NOLA Style!!!!

I'm back from a wonderful trip with the THS Concert Band. They played excellently earning a gold rating, the highest possible! Perhaps we have future musicians in this group?20160418_144406.jpg

Where in the World is Chandler Smith?

If you haven't hear, my oldest son, Chandler, has been traveling the globe for over five months. He began in Asia, made it to Europe, spent two weeks in Egypt, and is currently in India. We have been tracking Chan's progress on our world map. We are learning much about the world through his experience! Enjoy the video of his latest reveal...

UPDATE: Chan is home and up in San Francisco job hunting...Khymora thinks I should "ground him" to keep him home...I agree!

UPDATE #2: Chan heads for Uganda to work with Zozu Project next week. He will be meeting the children and learning about their adventures in Arua....more to come!

Aida Comes to Visit!

Our classroom was lucky to have a wonderful visit from one of our own THS exchange students. Aida is from Kazakhstan and is studying in Templeton for this school year. Our students were given a presentation about her home culture including ancient dress, language, geography, music, and eagle hunting! Before leaving, Aida wrote all the children's names in her language. What an exciting afternoon!

Enough Said!

Awesome Friday!

Thank you to all of the families who brought treats, watched our literature parade, and/or came to the park for our Cal Poly Agriculture day. We couldn't do it without you! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!

Seat Break with World's Quietest Conga Line!

What's up, Doc?

Our class pet/hamster, Doc, has arrived to a fantastic reception! The kids are in love with her and are doing a great job handling and feeding her. We are reading the sweet and funny book series, The World According to Humphrey , about -yes- a class hamster. This is a great connection between literature and the classroom. Should any family want to bring Doc home for a weekend, send in a note, shoot a text, or email me.

Team Isaac...We support the Lindsey Family!

TES supports the Lindsey Family!

We are a S.T.E.M. Classroom!

S.T.E.M. stands for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. STEM involves problem and performance based activities. STEM activities present a problem to solve, collaboration among students, design challenges, communication of findings, reflection of solutions, and an opportunity to redesign.

Kudos for Family Support!

Thank you to all of the family members who continue to provide our classroom with supplies, time helping the students, and general support! (There is still time to donate to our field trip fund if your family has not done so.) We could not do it without you!

Thank you!

Thank you, to all, for a great start to the year! We are currently fully supplied in the classroom thanks to  your generosity!

If you would like to volunteer in our classroom, please email or send me a note giving me a day and time that works best for you. I will set you up and let you know ASAP! If you can only come in for a short stint at the last minute, pop into the office, sign in and come on up! You are always welcome!

Parent Pop In

Please join our class each Friday morning for "Parent Pop In". From 8:20-8:40, family members are invited to read to and with our students. The children love having the opportunity to read with each of you! Bring your coffee, get comfy, and sit down with a good book!

Random Acts of Kindness

The E-2 Scholars are beginning a year of Random Acts of Kindness. Our students will be challenged to be kind to schoolmates and adults in a variety of ways. Each scholar will keep a bingo type board to document their kind actions. Once all of our students have filled their board, our class will celebrate...and Pay it Forward!

Current Assignments

Classroom correcting

Please note...each day we will correct - as a group - Daily Language, Daily Math, and Daily Geography. If you notice mistakes on your child's pages coming home on these assignments, please take time to talk to your child...all answers would have been corrected whole group in the class. Thank you!

Addition War

We have been reinforcing our quick addition and subtraction skills with a variety of games!

Working as teams through a tough math packet...Bryce and Isaac

Paper Editing

Occasionally, a paper will be sent home to edit. Please look weekly in your child's homework to see if a paper is in the front with "Please Edit" written on it. Help your child find mistakes with spelling, capitals, and punctuation. We are really working on these skills in class.
