Meet our Counselor

Kelley Meece joined the TES team as our full-time elementary counselor in 2014-2015.  Dr. Meece joins us from her previous position as a high school counselor at THS for 15+ years.  She has also worked on multiple sites over the last few years including: TES, VES and ECHS. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Physical Education, with a minor in Biology from Sacramento State University.  While at Sacramento State, she also completed her Masters in Counseling with dual emphases in School and Career Counseling.  Dr. Meece also earned a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership from UC Santa Barbara and Cal Poly, SLO in 2010.  Civility is at the center of her research as well as her practice and therapies in our schools.

Physical Education on Fridays

All 1st and 2nd Grade students will participate in organized PE on the majority of Fridays.  Students need to wear appropriate and supportive athletic footwear on Fridays.

We could use parent volunteers to assist at individual stations during PE.  If you are interested in volunteering contact your classroom teacher or Dr. Meece and we'll get you set up to be involved.  It is great fun!

Through a comprehensive developmental school counseling program, school counselors work as a team with the school staff, parents and the community to create a caring climate and atmosphere. By providing education, prevention, early identification and intervention, school counselors can help all children achieve academic success.

Elementary Counseling

Elementary School counselors help children succeed in school and life by teaching skills for learning, friendship, health and safety. We strive to help children by promoting respect for self and others, wise decision making and by practicing personal responsibility.

 Elementary school counselors don’t work in isolation; rather they are integral to the total educational program. They provide proactive leadership that engages all stakeholders in the delivery of programs and services to help students achieve school success. School counselors align with the school’s mission to support the academic achievement of all students as they prepare for the ever-changing world of the 21st century. This mission is accomplished through the design, development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive, developmental and systematic school counseling program. 

What do elementary counselors do?

The elementary years are a time when students begin to develop their academic self-concept and their feelings of competence and confidence as learners. They are beginning to develop decision-making, communication and life skills, as well as character values. It is also a time when students develop and acquire attitudes toward school, self, peers, social groups and family. Comprehensive developmental school counseling programs provide education, prevention and intervention services, which are integrated into all aspects of children’s lives. Early identification and intervention of children’s academic and social/emotional needs is essential in removing barriers to learning and in promoting academic achievement. The knowledge, attitudes and skills students acquire in the areas of academic, career and social development during these elementary years serve as the foundation for future success.

  • Offer small group and one-on-one counseling
  • Provide crisis counseling

  • Serve on the Multi-Disciplinary Team
  • Serve on the SST Team and 504 Plan Team
  • Promote success at school for all students

What counseling groups are offered at TES?

Groups change according to student needs and availability in our daily schedules. These are some examples:

  • Student problem solving in typical social interactions (patience, staying on task, how to make friends, sharing, etc)
  • Divorce or parent separation groups
  • Self control and anger management
  • Working on anxiety and nervousness
  • Loss and bereavement
  • Social Skills and Communication Groups and Individual Sessions
  • Friendship Groups
  • New Student Groups
  • Game Clubs

Campus Safety

Dr. Kelley Meece will also be focusing on this very important topic; ensuring that TES is a safe and happy place for all of our students.  

Please review our Playground Rules with your children to help support campus safety throughout the school year.  

Also, make sure your child comes to school with proper attire and footwear.  Shoes need to provide ample support and stability for the classroom, as well as the playground.  Close-toed shoes are highly recommended, the lower to the ground the better!  Please save the heels and open-toed shoes for after school and weekend hours.

Student Attendance and SARB letters

Dr. Meece serves as the TES representative for our district Student Attendance Review Board (SARB).  Student attendance reviews are performed weekly and our computerized system automatically generates SARB letters to families who have exceed the normal absence and/or tardy amounts.  The first and second letters are generally warnings.  The third letter may prompt a formal meeting in which an attendance contract will be signed.  After the third letter and contract, families may be recommended for review at the County Sheriff's Station.  Fines, penalties and other services may be enforced as a result of the SARB meeting.


Be sure to call in absences or submit letters to our attendance clerk, Jessica located in the TES front office or at 434-5826. If you have unusual or extenuating circumstances causing multiple absences or tardies, please let us know immediately.


If your child is absent or tardy for a medical appt., please bring a note or card from the practitioner's office.  These are coded differently in the computer and typically excluded from the computerized review.


Student attendance and starting our daily routines on time with the rest of our classmates are of the utmost importance in our young learner's lives. Please get our students to school on time.  First and Second Grade students can be dropped off as earlier as 7:30am when our campus supervision begins.
